Travel documents

An identity card is sufficient as a travel document. A passport is not absolutely necessary. Every traveler needs their own document to identify themselves. This regulation also applies to children and babies.

Further documents

Whether you need further documents depends on how you are planning your stay. If you want to work or study and have obtained certificates abroad, you should bring all your educational qualifications and other proof of your qualifications with you and have them checked beforehand to see whether they are recognized in Germany.

If you want to drive, you must check in advance whether a foreign driver's license is recognized in Germany. You should also find out about health insurance. Valid insurance is essential during your stay.
