Media overview

Germany has a free and diverse media landscape. In addition to the public service offerings, there is a wide range of private offerings. Public service offerings are provided, for example, by the television stations ARD and ZDF or the radio station Deutschlandradio. Deutsche Welle broadcasts programs in around 30 languages.

There are also numerous private TV and radio stations, over 300 daily newspapers and a large number of magazines. In addition to the freely accessible media, there are many paid offerings. You also have free access to news and analysis on various online portals, which are provided free of charge or for a fee.

Every household is required to pay a compulsory fee for public service content, the so-called broadcasting fee.
