Student housing
The search for a suitable apartment during your studies is influenced by a variety of factors.
- Do you prefer to live close to the city center and therefore a little more expensive, or would you like to live away from home and at a lower price?
- How will you get to the university - on foot, by car, bicycle, train or bus? How much time and money do you find reasonable?
- Do you prefer to live alone because this is the only way you can concentrate on your studies or do you prefer a shared flat because otherwise the ceiling will fall on your head, you will be able to socialize with fellow students and the rent will be cheaper?
- What is the general situation on the housing market?
In university cities, the number of shared flats is generally high and you can often still find a free room in a shared flat. Look in online advertisements or notices at the university.
The local student unions run their own halls of residence. This is usually the cheapest way to live because the utilities are already included in the rent. The rooms are often rented fully furnished. The student halls of residence are also close to the university or conveniently located.
In Jena alone, Studierendenwerk Thüringen offers over 3000 places in halls of residence at over 30 locations. Places in halls of residence are in high demand, so you need to apply in good time.
Is the semester starting and you still haven't found a place to live? The Studierendenwerk and the universities will support you in your search for accommodation, also in cooperation with local housing companies.
