Obligation to report
If you want to stay longer than 3 months, you must always register your stay with the local registration authority in accordance with the EU Citizens Directive - even if you are not moving into your own home.
In addition, the general registration obligation applies. Every person residing in Germany must register their place of residence with the relevant registration authority within 2 weeks. This includes the obligation to report any change of residence within a certain period of time. Failure to do so is considered an administrative offense.
Anyone moving abroad from an apartment in Germany must deregister with the local registration authority. The local registration office in the city of Jena is the Citizens' Service. Arrange a registration appointment online in advance.
