Entitlement to benefits

Germany is a welfare state in which all citizens should be protected from economic hardship. That is why, in addition to the statutory social insurance schemes, there is a dense network of benefits to help with special needs.

Entitlement is based on the legal situation and actual need. In addition to state benefits, there are of course also non-state support options, e.g. through foundations. Please contact your local authorities and advice centers to find out about possible entitlements.

Individual cities sometimes support people on low incomes. In Jena, you can apply for the Jenabonus card and receive discounts on local transport, among other things.
