With the MeinJena app, you have free access to WiFi in the city center. The range is constantly being expanded. The app provides information on local news and topics relating to local transport, leisure, energy and housing.

University members can use additional HotSpots. Many stores, hotels and restaurants also offer their customers free Wi-Fi access.

If you would like to make a call to Germany from abroad, please note the respective area codes. For Germany, dial +49 and omit the initial 0 of the mobile or landline number in Germany.

If you want to call a landline phone in Germany, you need the respective area code. For Jena, dial 03641. The area code only needs to be used if you are in a different city or if you are calling a landline number from a mobile device.

There are numerous providers of mobile phone contracts for your mobile device. It is worth comparing the different conditions, as there are sometimes special offers for students, for example.

You can top up your prepaid cell phone with credit, which you can buy in supermarkets and often also in newsagents or drugstores. When choosing, make sure that you only buy credit from your provider.

If you want to use the Internet or a connection for landline devices in your apartment, you must find a suitable provider yourself. Your landlord will only do this in exceptional cases, e.g. in a hall of residence run by the Studierendenwerk.

The expansion of DSL and LTE can vary from provider to provider. Therefore, please check the actual availability for your location with all possible internet providers.
