Blocked account
If you would like to study in Germany and your stay is linked to a visa, you will need a blocked account. You set this up in your home country and use it to prove that you will be able to finance your living expenses independently during the first year of your studies.
If a fixed compulsory amount has been saved for the whole year, you can dispose of a certain amount for each month of your stay. The remaining amount remains blocked for the following months. You can freely dispose of money that you deposit in addition to the minimum amount.
Blocked accounts are offered by various specialized providers at different conditions, so it is worth comparing them. Please note that German banks and savings banks are increasingly no longer offering blocked accounts. The Federal Foreign Office has announced that it will compile a list of the remaining providers.
You may also be able to consider a scholarship, proof of income from your parents or a guarantee as an alternative to a blocked account.
