Accommodation for students and trainees

As a rule, pupils and trainees (like students) cannot receive benefits for accommodation from jenarbeit (Bürgergeld, SGB II) or from the specialist social services (Sozialhilfe, SGB XII). Exceptions may be possible, e.g. due to pregnancy or illness.

If you are entitled to Federal Training Assistance Benefits (BAföG) or Vocational Training Allowance (BAB), you may also be granted accommodation benefits as part of this support. These benefits depend on the type of training and accommodation.

You may be able to receive a grant from jenarbeit towards your uncovered reasonable costs for accommodation and heating. Your income situation and whether or not you live with your parents are relevant here. The relevant advice will be provided by the responsible benefits advisor at jenarbeit.

If you receive BAföG or BAB, you cannot receive a rent deposit, relocation or procurement costs.
