Entry for the purpose of attending school

You are very welcome to attend a school in Germany.

Under the right to freedom of movement, you can come to Germany without any restrictions. If you are a national of an EU or EEA member state, you do not need a visa to enter the Federal Republic of Germany. A valid travel document, such as a passport or identity card, is sufficient.

Regular school attendance is possible or compulsory if you have your habitual residence in Germany. However, you can also attend a German school as a guest or exchange student or take part in an intensive language course.

You can register for a guest stay directly with the school of your choice. The school management decides on admission. There are a number of exchange programs that will support you and sometimes also award scholarships.
